Sanderson Has Good Showing At WRAL

Posted on Updated on

The Sanderson Wrestling team entered Athens Drive High School Friday December 16th with one goal in mind; winning.  The Spartans are 6-0 on the season and have won the first two tournaments of the year for them in dominating fashion.  WRAL is a different animal and can be a good indicator of state championship matches later in the season.  Sanderson brought 14 wrestlers on Friday and everyone returned the following morning.  Though they only had one wrestler to place (#2 Blane McElreath) the Spartans had good outings.  Most wrestlers went 3-2 in one of the toughest tournaments in the East Coast.  #3 Ian Clark, #4 Logan Martini and #8 Christopher Grannan all were one win away from placement at 152, 145 and 195 respectably.  The team finished 7th with 92 behind winners Jefferson High school(256), Parkland High School(215.5), Ocean Lakes(173), Pinecrest(164), Jack Britt(110.5) and Union Pines(101).  #2 Blane McElreath earned his 99th career victory in dominating fashion as he defeated Havelock’s Bogard at 138 in the finals 9-1.  The Spartans are at home against Heritage Monday the 19th in a Conference dual.
