Ian Clark is the lone placer to cap off the Spartan’s great wrestling season. Clark(43-8) went through the season a returning state qualifier and the 3rd year senior did not disappoint dominating most of the season only dropping four losses going into the regional tournament. With injuries plaguing Clark throughout his career and especially this season his hopes for returning to the big dance were in doubt after losing in overtime of the regional semi-finals. After a quick pin to a wrestler Clark lost to 3-5 earlier in the year, he advances to the state tournament. The first round match up for Clark was a high powered favorite Parkland wrestler. The Spartan downed him 4-2 in regulation to advance to wrestle a familiar foe from Southeast High School. Clark had won the previous two meetings(first meeting in overtime, second 8-1) but this match was on the big stage and the Spartan earned a pin to advance to the state semi-finals to wrestle Junior Rodney Shepard from Northern Durham. Clark gave a great effort but fell to the Mideast Regional Champion 5-10. After a win in the consolation semi-finals Clark fell to Clayton’s Ethridge to place 4th. With only two years of wrestling experience under his belt, Ian Clark earned 81 victories with two bids to the state tournament.
