The Cap 8 has a State Champion

Posted on

For the second year in a row a Wakefield high school wrestler earns a state championship.  Last year it was senior 160 pounder Eric White and this year it is senior 285 pounder Devan Caldwell.  Caldwell had a tough road to the finals having to go through the heavy favorite Moresville’s  Zack Brown in the semi-finals.  Caldwell wins a close bout to Parkland’s Junior Chris Walker to claim his first ever state championship and the school’s second in two years.  Devan Caldwell is also the second wrestling state champion ever in Wakefield high school history.  Brandon Harris, senior 145 pounder from Millbrook, also represented the Cap 8 Conference well at the state tournament working his way to the state finals to wrestle heavy favorite, Southern Alamance senior 145/defending State champion, Joey Moon.  After a tough semi-finals match against Jack Britt’s Aaron Dickson, Harris was focused and ready for the final match of the day.  Unfortunately for the Cap 8 Joey Moon was too much for Harris as the Millbrook senior fell 7-22.  The Cap 8 had five placers overall:
