The Spartans traveled to Athens Drive December 11th for two tough matches against Thomasville high and Holly Springs high.  Sanderson escaped with a 32-30 victory over Thomasville in what was a crazy encounter with the dual match looking to go either way up until the final match.  Individual winners were Adam DeRose, Said Alhammami, Brandon Barrentine, Matt Norby, #8 Christopher Grannan, #6 Antwuan Elliot, and Aaron Hopkins.  Key victories were DeRose over Jason Boutsady, the #6 ranked wrestler at 113 in the 2A division, and Antwuan Elliot over Kieth Clemmons, the #9 ranked wrestler at 195 in the 2A division.  Sanderson had no rest as they took on powerhouse Holly Springs soon thereafter trying to avenge the 18-40 loss in the 2013 season.  The Spartans end up falling to Holly Springs 30-34 in a barn burner of a match that showed the true heart for the sport both programs have.  Individual winners were Adam Alhorani, Adam DeRose, David Losada, #8 Christopher Grannan, #6 Antwuan Elliot, and Aaron Hopkins.  In a close affair the Spartans are hoping to get another bid at Holly Springs later in the year.  Sanderson travels to the Wakefield Challenge Saturday in hopes of regaining the crown of tournament champion the Cary high school defends.

DeRose prepares to wrestle 5th in the state Chris Kimmerly from Leesville.
