Millbrook vs. Sanderson, A Rivalry Continued

Posted on

Sanderson high wrestles its last Cap 8 conference match of the year in its last home match of the year. The Spartans wrestle against a familiar foe Millbrook in a match that will decide the outright champion of the Cap 8. Millbrook has lost a match against Leesville high earlier this year but Sanderson defeated Leesville. The last time a tie occurred in the Cap 8 was in 2013 when Millbrook, Wake Forest and Sanderson all tied for the crown. In 2014 Sanderson dominated the conference and won the championship. Since 2011 the story seems to read the same: Sanderson high, Cap 8 champions.

This year is different though, there is a different atmosphere surrounding the usual Cap 8 dual of the year. January 28th will be senior night at Sanderson, a special night honoring the seniors in the last home match of the year, it is a very important night. The other elephant in the room is that if Sanderson wins the match it will be the fifth consecutive year the team is on top of the conference. The last time Millbrook beat Sanderson it was in 2013 by one point; the time before was in 2010 with a score 19-52. The Spartans have owned recent history defeating Millbrook 5 out 7 outings.

From a coaching aspect Millbrook has relativity stayed the same while Sanderson has gone through radical changes with assistant coach Alex Johnson stepping into the head coaching position with Travis Wilson and Marcus Felton assisting him. Millbrook will be lead by Coach Scott Saby.

Seniors being honored this night are: Solomon Solkowitz, Elliot Davis, David Losada, Patrick McComas, Jake Keehn, DeJuan Dye, Keiwon Evans, Brandon Barrentine, Jalil Monk, Ben Miller and Mitch Hackney.

The Spartan fans will be loud and proud Wednesday night for the biggest match of the year for both teams. The stakes are high and that makes for entertaining and passionate wrestling. Wrestling starts at 7pm.
