The head coach of the Spartans is Travis Wilson and he is assisted are Alex Johnson and Marcus Felton.  Sanderson Wrestling has come from the bottom working its way to the top.  Every wrestler that has come and gone through the wrestling team has gotten something out of it and is a better person for it.

Head Coach:

Nic Shriner(2015-Present):

Nic Shriner, just graduated from Appalachian State University in May with a degree in Physical Education. Shriner began his time at App State as a football walk-on and wrestler, and focused on football after wrestling as a freshman. He saw game action for App both during his Junior and Senior years. He comes from one of NC’s premier wrestling families. His Dad, Bob Shriner, is Head Coach at Orange HS with >525 career wins, and was a 2x ACC Champion, NCAA All-American, placed 7th at NCAA and is a member of the UNC and All-ACC Wrestling Halls of Fame. As a HS Senior, Nic placed 3rd at the NC 3A Wrestling State Championship. One of the most telling quotes about Nic comes from the 2014 App State Football media guide. It says, “[Nic is] one of the hardest hitters…plays with infectious intensity and passion…” If you saw him coaching from the sideline at Friday’s game against Knightdale, you understand exactly what this quote means! In HS, he lettered in 3 sports, football, wrestling and baseball. In addition to his coaching and athletic abilities, Nic was also named to App’s Academic Honor role.

Assistant Coaches:

Alex Johnson(2010-Present):

Johnson brings a certain intensity to Sanderson High. Johnson’s knowledge of angles and leverage keep his wrestlers thinking about the best time to strike and they take advantage of it. His excitement towards the sport fires the wrestlers up and can keep them in matches. He teaches good offense combined with creating a perfect angle to shoot.

Marcus Felton(2011-Present):

Felton brings a home grown mentality because he wrestled for Sanderson high school for three years and graduated in 2010.  Felton will bring his statistical ability as well as a different style of wrestling than the other coaches.   The Sanderson team will be truly tested by Felton mentally on the road to the highest honor in high school wrestling.  Email:
